It’s official: we’re in a global plastic pollution crisis.

The world of beauty products is behind the times. Swathed in plastic and outer boxes, most often housed in plastic containers, and frequently including leaflets, tamper evident seals, extra internal lids, and plastic applicators, the beauty industry generates a lot of waste, most of which isn’t recyclable.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. It’s a start, but we need to go beyond the three ‘R’s.

Le Lapin is doing its part to help by changing the mantra to: Return. Refill. Reuse.

In fact, according to Zero Waste Week, the beauty industry alone generated more than 120 billion units of packaging in 2018, whilst the cardboard that encases all those products contributes to the loss of 18 million acres of forest each year.

The facts of plastic pollution are, frankly, horrific.

Aluminium is green, durable, and attractive.

Aluminium is the most environmentally friendly and most recyclable type of container in the world.

Unlike glass, aluminium is lightweight and doesn’t break.

Unlike clear containers, aluminium provides complete protection from light damage, meaning we can use only natural preservatives in our formulations.

Unlike plastic, aluminium is 100% recyclable and can be recycled indefinitely, using only 5% of the energy used to make the original product, with no degradation or loss of quality.

This is in comparison to plastic, much of which cannot be recycled, or has only a 10-20% recyclability, and degrades dramatically each time it is recycled.

Le Lapin takes the environment seriously, and hopes to encourage small changes in people and in the world by providing evidence that there are alternatives to the conventional.
